Between Bites of Yumburger
Milo rushes to Zick’s side, fearing the worst.
Milo sprang to his feet and rushed to the bathroom.
He didn’t want to cancel their date, feeling as if he’d waited his entire life for it—which he might have, giving the fact that he’d been madly in love with his best friend for quite some time—but Zick’s safety was more important than their romantic endeavors.
If Zick required the attention of a life keeper, Milo would gladly bring him to a life nook and reschedule their date. They had all of their lives to go on dates, thus postponing this one wouldn’t kill them—as long as they stay far away from slippery floors, that is.
Milo threw the door open. “Are you alright?!” he yelped, crossing the threshold. “What happ—”
Milo didn’t finish his sentence, because the moment his gaze landed on a very naked Zick sprawled on the ground, his heart stuttered alongside his tongue. Milo swallowed the lump in his throat, ignoring the blush creeping over his cheeks, and looked away fast enough to make him dizzy.
“So,” trailed off Milo, fetching the towel folded atop a bench. “What happened here?” He flung the towel over Zick’s body, covering all of his important bits, and crossed his arms.
Zick snorted, blinking at the ceiling. “I was so excited about our first date, I might have jumped out of the bath barrel and slipped on the floor.”
Milo stifled a laugh as he crouched beside Zick. He summoned his wand, planning to cast a check-up spell, but hesitated before slamming his eyes shut. He was used to cast basic healing spells on Zick, but with an image of him in the nude still burning in his eyes, he was pretty sure he’d cast a dud if he attempted to use magic.
And casting a dud while Zick was injured would be worse than seeing him in all his naked glory.
Milo dismissed his wand and lifted up three fingers instead. “How many fingers do you see?”
Zick propped himself onto his elbows, a goofy grin splitting his cheeks. “I love you,” he breathed out, his eyes sparkling with utter joy.
Milo’s breath hitched. He ignored the love blooming in his heart as he rose to his feet. “T-that’s it,” he stammered, his veins throbbing. “We’re going to see a life keeper. Something’s definitely wrong with you.”
Zick chuckled as he staggered to his feet. “Nothing’s wrong with me.” The towel protecting his modesty slipped on the ground and offered Milo a perfect view of his private parts. Again.
Milo’s heart skipped a beat. At this rate, he was the one who would require a life keeper.
“I’ll just gulp down a potion,” explained Zick, securing the towel around his waist with nonchalance, unaware that Milo’s heart had just exploded inside his chest. “Then, I’ll be ready to go.”
Milo cocked an eyebrow. “Are you sure?”
“Positive.” Zick flashed Milo a bright smile. “I’m not missing this date for a minor bruise on the head.”
A scowl wrinkled Milo’s forehead as a grunt rumbled in his chest. He wasn’t totally convinced that Zick was well enough to go on their date, but he chose to believe him as Zick bounced to his bedroom to get dressed.
Milo wouldn’t lie. He was glad they didn’t have to cancel their date. Still, an uneasy feeling lurched in his stomach.
What if this was the start of a terrible first date?
